Coming Full Circle

Like a moth to the light, Seamus finds his way back to Press on Randy

Press on Randy is a one man musical project by Seamus Tomkins. It has been the moniker for Seamus' musical ideas throughout his adult life. After a post high school period of playing in a rock band, the call for different adventures beckoned. Possessions and guitar amps were sold and Seamus took off across the world with an acoustic guitar in tow. Many adventures were had, but like the swing of a pendulum, Seamus found himself back in his hometown of Seattle. As a different (yet somehow the same) man, an idea to do a one-man band formed.

A looper pedal and laptop were purchased. He named the pedal Randy. He pressed on him a lot. The laptop, however, was not named. A juggling act of synths, drumbeats, percussion, and guitar, and his voice became a live show in Seattle from 2008 thru 2010. The EP Moths and Butterflies was released in 2009.

Other life adventures beckoned, however, and the Press on Randy act was put on the shelf. Six years went by before life circumstances brought him to a complete halt. Falling on some difficult times, Seamus found creating music again gave him great joy. The album A Ghost with a Fish  Eye Lens was created and self-produced in a tool shed and released under his moniker Press on Randy.

More studio albums followed in the years to come with the full-length release Birds are Dinosaurs and a recent follow-up EP called The Televised Son of Man. Both of those albums had much of the production done in a camper van. Recently, Seamus built back his one-man life show in West Marin, the area in which he now resides. Press on Randy has stayed the creative vessel through which Seamus explores his musical muses. The music has evolved but the spirit in which it is created has very much stayed the same.
